Hey! Are you experiencing weird behaviour in your microcontroller?
We have been working on a MCU controlled project for a month now and just discovered the reason to why we have been pulling hair out of our heads. BASCOM/ATMEGA8 fails at concatinating strings!
Even though the manual describes that a concat feature is available by writing a= b+”c”, and we have used this successfully previously, it is error prone!
It made our microcontroller jump to instructions that should not be reachable, made it restart at random and caused very odd behaviour which was hard to debug.
So take caution when concatinating strings in BASCOM!

How to: fingermaling

I forbindelse med vores SAINT projekt skulle vi bruge en fingermaling til vores prototype (se mere om projektet på SAINT siden).
Da vi ønskede at gøre brug af en vandbaseret, ikke giftig, fingermaling til vores malingdispensere, og da vi ikke lige kunne finde en sådan til rimelige penge i butikkerne, valgte vi at lave vores egen fingermaling.

Opskriften lyder som følger:

Ingredienser:

Til basen:
Maizena mel eller lignede middel der kan bruges til jævning. (Til vores projekt har vi brugt en billig sovsejævning fra ALDI.)
Vand
Sukker (1 tsk pr. 200 ml)
Glycerin el. sæbe (1 spsk. pr. 200 ml )
Evt. en smule sukker
Atemon

Vandfarver i brikker – anden vandbaseret farve kan sagtens bruges, men brikkerne kan være at foretrække pga. prisen (vi købte vores i Søstrene Grene)

Tilberedning:

Bruges vandfarve i brikker skal disse granuleres eller opløses i vand, således at der ikke kommer klumper i malingen. Vi valgte at opløse brikkerne i vand og har erfaret at det tager omkring 3 døgn for relativt store brikker at gå i opløsning og at man skal ryste opløsningen med jævne mellemrum for at brikkerne kan opløses.

Basen i vores fingermaling består af en simpel jævning – nærmest som når du laver sovs. Afhængigt af den mængde fingermaling som man ønsker at fabrikere, piskes maizenamel og vand og sukker sammen. Dette bringes i kog under kraftig piskning så alle klumper udjævnes. Ønskes en anden konsistens, kan man tilsætte mere jævning eller vand undervejs. NB: vi har erfaret at konsistenen ændrer sig og bliver mere fast under afkøling. Sukkeret synes at påvirke malingens glans.
Der tilsættes yderligere en smule glycerin eller sæbe samt atemon hvis man ønsker at gemme malingen i længere tid.

Malingen bør omrøres under afkøling således at den ikke sætter sig og bliver til en geleklump.

We are currently working on our Bachelor thesis where we are developing a TUI module for task status visualization. During this process we stumbled over a annoying problem with the Prolfic / LogiLink USB to serial (RS232) adapter which we wasn’t able to use on several Windows 7 computers resulting in the following error in device manager: “This device cannot start code 10 error”
After several hours of googling we found that the only driver working on W7 was the Windows Vista driver (v2.30) which can be downloaded from http://www.cooldrives.com/lib/cooldrives/vista-prolific-chip-driver-for-serial-adapters.zip
We would like to link to cooldriver’s previous page with links to the driver, but they removed this, forcing us to link directly to the zip file.
Hope this saves all of you for a lot of wasted time :)
Update: Thanks for all the comments on this post. The driver has now proven to also work for Dynex DX-UBDB
